I have purposely avoided this place since they opened because I'd rather go to the Mission and get some cheaper and better tasting Mexican food. Their albondigas soup came up on the 7x7 list so being goal oriented person that I am, I had to conquer it.
#89- Albondigas Soup from Mijita - 7x7's 2012 Top 100 |
First glance at the soup, it does look good. Lots of vegetables and meatballs - colorful, etc. The first bite was such a disappointment. So bland. Probably the blandest thing I'd tasted in a long time. I'm not even sure how you can make Mexican food bland, but they did it. The meatballs were dry and tasteless. I definitely didn't finish this.
I was really surprised they had chilaquiles on the menu so I ordered it. I figured that if the soup was bad at least they couldn't screw up on this. A popular breakfast dish, its a plate of chips with salsa or mole poured on top, a little bit of queso fresco and sour cream. I added the over easy egg. The only authentic thing about this were the chips werestill slightly crispy, but again no flavor to be found. Very disappointing. Dishes like this make me want to eat the same dish somewhere else to redeem it.
