Just within the last 5 or so years I've grown a love for cheese. Ever since I came back from Spain I've been in search for a cheese plate like I had at Quimet i Quimet (see my post here - The cheese plate at Quimet i Quimet). Mission cheese serves up cheese tastings, grilled cheese sandwiches, and hot dishes as well as wines and beers. Seating is on a first come first serve basis.
Slices of bread, tiny pickles, and some dried fruits to accompany the cheese platter.
Decide to represent with some Cali love and get the California cheese plate. The cheeses change daily, but today's were: bucheret (rich goat's milk),baserri (basque style sheep's milk), and big rock blue (creamy/mild blue cheese).
I'm a huge fan of mushroom grilled cheese sandwiches. Mission Cheese does theirs particularly well. The double mushroom rainbow has Marieke gouda, chanterelle and crimini mushrooms with a argula citrus spread, all hot pressed between two slices of crispy bread.
A cheese shop with their house special mac and cheese! How can you not order this? Perfectly toasted with bread crumbs sprinkled on top for some crispiness while you bite into the creamy mac and cheese. It's a secret recipe, but I want to say there is at least a sharp cheese, a blue cheese, and a hint of cayenne.
